Meta
Product sense and execution under "move fast", impact is the currency.
Working here
Working at Meta
Culture
Fast-moving and impact-obsessed, with a deep metrics culture around growth and engagement. The mantras, "move fast," "be bold," "focus on impact", are real operating norms. The RPM program rotates you through three teams over roughly 18 months, and PMs are expected to be scrappy and ship.
The type of work
RPMs rotate across the Family of Apps (Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Ads, Reality Labs). You own a metric and a surface, run experiments constantly, and partner tightly with data science and eng. The expectation is that you can justify any bet by its impact on a top-line metric.
A day in the life
You open the day where decisions get made here: the metrics. A view in Unidash, a quick ad-hoc slice in Scuba to see how far a change rippled through the funnel. 'Why guess when you can know?' isn't a poster, it's how the conversation actually runs. You triage with eng, then sit with a data scientist to size an opportunity, weighing the numbers against what a recent round of user research turned up. Your phone is running an unreleased internal build; you live inside the product you're shipping. A check-in with your rotation mentor, a scroll through Workplace to catch what other teams announced, and an afternoon writing a crisp proposal that argues one thing: the impact case for a bet, in half-year planning terms. Even this early, you're the one holding the threads together (engineers, designers, analysts, regional folks), and a real share of the job is the unglamorous execution that keeps them in sync.
The interview process
Meta interview process
- 1
Recruiter screen
30 minA recruiter fit call: resume, why-Meta and what you value about it, a launched-product story. Screens motivation and communication, not product sense.
Behavioral - 2
Product sense
45 minDesign or improve a Meta product; they push on user empathy and explicit prioritization.
Product Sense - 3
Execution and Analytical
45 minPick metrics, diagnose a metric drop, prioritize under constraints.
ExecutionAnalytical - 4
Leadership & Drive
45 minOwnership, conflict, and operating through ambiguity.
Behavioral
What they weight & how to answer
What Meta weights and how to answer
Metarewards structured thinking over a single “right” answer. These are its strongest signals, ordered from most weighted.
Product Sense
Most weightedStrong product sense on their own apps, always with an explicit prioritization call.
Lead with the user and make prioritization explicit, Meta pushes hard on "why this and not that." Segment users, weigh the options against a stated goal, and commit to one with a clear rationale. Tie the bet back to a top-line metric; impact is the currency here.
Behavioral
A full pillar, not a footnote, the dedicated "Leadership & Drive" round weighs ownership, influence, and drive as heavily as product sense.
The "Leadership & Drive" round weighs ownership, influence, and drive as heavily as product sense, so bring stories with real stakes and your fingerprints on the outcome. Show you moved fast, took a bold bet, and owned the result, good or bad. Quantify the impact.
Analytical
Metric definition and metric-drop diagnosis ("engagement dropped 10%, why?") are signature.
Metric-drop diagnosis is signature. Structure the funnel, isolate the segment or step, form hypotheses, and say how you'd confirm each, internal change vs. external vs. seasonality. When defining a metric, pick the one that captures real value and name what it could hide.
Execution
They want to see you sequence and ship, not just ideate.
Show you can sequence and ship, not just ideate. Scope an MVP, order the work, surface dependencies and risks, and make the call with a stated tradeoff. Bias toward shipping and measuring, that's the Meta operating norm.
